SPOILER FREE REVIEW - Alien: Romulus 8.1/10
Alien: Romulus is a suspenseful, gruesome, and downright terrifying addition to the Alien franchise, hitting all the right notes for fans of the series. If you’re into the kind of horror that sticks with you long after the credits roll, this one’s going to be right up your alley. The film is an absolute masterclass in sci-fi horror, showing once again that these guys are pros at what they do. I’ve loved the Alien and Predator universe since I was a kid, and it’s clear this world is only getting bigger and better, with plenty more movies likely on the way.
The atmosphere in Romulus is classic sci-fi. The set design is incredible—so detailed and immersive that you’ll feel like you’re right there with the characters, trying not to get torn apart by a Xenomorph. The acting is top-notch, with the cast clearly relishing the chance to dive into these roles. The tension is cranked up to eleven from start to finish, and there are moments so creepy that I’m having daymares just thinking about them.
The plot? Classic Alien fare—stranded sci-fi folks trying to improve their situation but only making things worse. One of the standout performances comes from the actor playing the synthetic (that’s the franchise’s name for robots), who nails the role and brings something fresh to the table while respecting what’s come before. The mix of CGI and practical effects, probably with some puppetry thrown in, is spot-on, making the Xenomorphs feel horrifyingly real.
As for how Romulus fits into the franchise, it slots in perfectly. It adds a lot to the series and will definitely please the fans. This film is sadistic and gory in all the right ways, making it a must-see for those who like their horror with a side of blood and guts. I’d give it an 8.1 out of 10. It’s a solid entry in the Alien universe and one that both fans and gore enthusiasts are going to love.
