Action Theatre is a philosophy under the umbrella of the Theatre of the Enlightened.
The emphasis is on accessibility to theatre practice. If we think of Action as an activity done by a human being then we can start to build a world around that activity. If we label all things done by a human as an action we can then start to place that action in a world of our own creation.
Take the example of someone being impaired physically and in a wheelchair, that person could be driving a spaceship and we build the world around them.
Action Theatre is a dynamic form of performance where each movement or non-movement or gesture serves as the foundation for an entire world to unfold. In this innovative approach, a single action by a character becomes the catalyst for the creation of a rich and immersive environment, where every element, from the setting to the supporting characters, is crafted in real-time to enhance the narrative. With Action Theatre, actors become the architects of their own realities, seamlessly blending physicality, emotion, and imagination to transport audiences to uncharted realms of storytelling. It is a collaborative and spontaneous art form where the boundaries between performer and spectator blur, inviting everyone to become active participants in the unfolding drama.
